After paying a visit to her hometown of St. Louis, Missouri, where there is a teashop around every corner serving homemade confections, Kathy Gutierrez noticed a shortage of old-fashioned “goodies” in the city of Miami. Sure there are bakeries, but nothing like she had throughout her childhood. Her daughter, Marili Rivera, was motivated to elaborate on the idea as soon as her mother mentioned the concept. What if she made a product available that would make people feel like they were in a teashop sixty years ago…something that tastes fantastic & looks great too.

Kate & Co. was born in June of 2005, named after Marili’s great-grandmother, Kate Skrine (“Mimi”). All of the company’s recipes once belonged to Mimi & date back to the 1940s; they are authentic southern recipes from Griffin, Georgia.

Inspired by Mimi’s southern hospitality, at Kate & Co., Marili provides her clients with the same old-fashioned comfort & personal attention, yet throws in a pinch of that sophisticated Miami flair we all know & love!
